Sawtooth Mountains from Stanley, Idaho. If
you extend your stay, central Idaho is wonderful country for fishing, birding,
hiking, backpacking, hang gliding, rafting, golfing, and mountaineering.
I found both varieties of P. cyananthus along the road from Stanley to
Ketchum
Penstemon cyananthus, on highway 75
south of Stanley, Idaho
This gorgeous little Castilleja and the
variant below are found in scree along highway 75 south of Stanley,
Idaho
Come and help identify this lovely little
paintbrush! Castilleja sp. Could be C. covilleana, but I am not certain.
Penstemon eatonii is an "import", planted some generations ago by the state highway department. It is now naturalized, but is not overly aggressive. Located along highway 93, north of Mackay, Idaho, looking southeast with a portion of the Lost River Range in the background.
Yes, we do find loads of wildflowers other than penstemons. Mertensia longiflora along the spur road to Logistica Group camp at Pass Creek Summit near Mackay, Idaho.
This little treasure is Penstemon eriantherus var. redactus, found in limestone scree at the foot of Borah Peak, the highest mountain in Idaho, just north of Mackay.
